CARY — SAS wants to use artificial intelligence and scientific research to see the planet together with new eyes.
On the 50th anniversary of Earth Month, the Cary-based software firm announced that it is teaming up using the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
The goal: in order to implement the next generation involving crowd-driven artificial intelligence (AI) to aid power AI algorithms designed for you to help us better understand some of our planet.
They seem to be jointly launching an online crowdsource-driven app to gather the collective mind of the crowd. They are actually asking volunteers – an army of citizen scientists from ancient school students in today’s kind of electronic classrooms to artists, engineers and even professional data scientists – to kick-start this effort by rehearsing and judging images of the particular rainforest.
“By combining the power of the environmental science research platforms, SAS’ AI and computer vision systems, and the sheer intellectual power up of concerned citizens, we might develop AI models that will exponentially increase the value for human insights and strive to help deliver near real-time assessment about global environmental change, ” said Albert van Jaarsveld, CEO on IIASA, in a statement.
“Since image analysis is a crucial first step for the legitimate assessment and projection of deforestation, we are asking people to see what technology can’t see, by examining and reporting in relation to images of smaller incremental forestry incursions worldwide, ” added suv Jaarsveld. “Crowdsourcing helps improve the AJAI algorithms, expediting what utilized to carry years to analyze, thus helping to drive vital policy typical reactions to protect our forests a great deal more quickly. ”
IIASA is an independent, international researching institute that is placing a fabulous spotlight for the issue of deforestation to learn concerning the application of AJE to elucidate the interconnectivity associated with Earth’s ecosystems.
Whereas the first phase of your collaboration focuses on deforestation, there usually are plans to extend this software to other environmental concerns where by crowdsourcing can help serve often the greater good.
