Eugene Jackson has been named vice president of advertising and marketing sales for USA TODAY Network Ohio news organizations in central and northeast Ohio.

A new vice president of advertising and marketing sales has been named for The Dispatch group of publications in central Ohio and for the USA TODAY Network Ohio news organizations in northeastern Ohio.

Eugene Jackson replaces Chris Pettograsso, who has taken another job.

In making the announcement, Allen Jones, regional vice president for advertising sales, said Jackson “is a high-energy, digitally minded leader with a passion for building and inspiring strong teams. He has long admired the work produced by our Ohio markets and is anxious to build upon this tremendous legacy of success.”

The advertising and marketing arm of the news organization is known as LOCALiQ, which is a brand that links local trust with leading technology, including digital marketing acumen, and aligns with the company’s mission of empowering local businesses to thrive.

That trust has been built over nearly 150 years of local journalism and support for central Ohio communities. The LOCALiQ brand also leverages insights from working with more than 300,000 customers nationwide.

Jackson is a Virginia native who has 16 years of media experience in various roles,  including executive leadership. He most recently was senior sales director and regional market leader for Gannett’s Illinois markets of Lincoln, Pekin, Peoria, Pontiac and Springfield.

“Over the past two years, Eugene’s team has transformed into one of the most successful teams in the region and continues to grow month over month,” Jones said.

Jackson’s past roles include senior vice president of advertising and marketing in the Washington, D.C., area. Before that, he was regional president and publisher of the Rapid City Journal in South Dakota and the Casper Star Tribune in Wyoming. He also previously served as president and publisher at the Daily Journal in Missouri and director of advertising at the Connecticut Post. Earlier, Jackson worked for more than nine years in various advertising leadership positions at the Roanoke Times in Virginia, where he began his career after graduating from Virginia Tech.

Jackson said he has long admired the vibrancy of Columbus and The Dispatch’s commitment to serving the community, and he is eager to work with all of the markets served by Gannett in central and northeastern Ohio, including Dispatch Magazines and ThisWeek News.

“I look forward to helping Columbus and northeastern Ohio continue to grow by bringing LocaliQ’s and USA TODAY’s network of innovative products to even more advertisers in the Ohio region,” Jackson said. “I am excited and honored to lead this team in the future.
